WELCOME TO PARKER COUNTY, TEXAS AND
THE OFFICE OF THE PARKER COUNTY CLERK, JEANE BRUNSON
|
Historical Parker County is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing counties in the
state. Established in 1855, Parker County is a neighbor of Tarrant County to the west,
with Weatherford being the county seat. Having an estimated population of 107,400, Parker
County offers easy access to Ft. Worth and Dallas via I-20 and I-30. The crown jewel of
Parker County is the circa 1886 Courthouse located in the heart of Weatherford, and is
the center of the county. Indian raids, cowboys, and cattle drives helped create the rich
western heritage of Parker County.

Famous inhabitants include cattle drivers Oliver Loving and Charles Goodnight, who served as
models for Larry McMurtry’s novel “Lonesome Dove”, and Larry Hagman, the famous J.R. Ewing
in the T.V. series, “Dallas”. Another notable figure is “Peter Pan” of Broadway fame, Mary
Martin. Known as the “Peach Capitol of Texas” and the “Cutting Horse Capitol of the World”,
Parker County boasts not only beautiful rolling hills, well-groomed orchards, and lush
grasslands, but thriving industry and friendly people.
With the expert assistance of my staff; Commissioner John Roth, Chair of Technology
Committee; and the Commissioner’s Court, it is with great pleasure I am able to offer the
records of Parker County to you on-line.
